What are we looking for??
We are looking for tales.
Folktales. Family legends. Ghost stories. Local lore. Urban legends. Tall tales. Origin stories. Superstitions that grew into stories. Things your grandmother swore happened. Things everyone in your town knows not to do. Poems that tell stories. Song Lyrics about a ghost (or milk maid) from the 19th century.
They may be inherited, retold, adapted, or entirely invented.
What we want is the tale: work that draws from oral storytelling and feels made to be told again.
Submissions can be in the form of poetry, visual arts, short story, or reviews of books .
We do not accept conventional short fiction with a tiny bit of folklore sprinkled on it, or horror stories with no folkloric elements.
Old lore is welcome. So is new lore.
Submissions, Fees and Fee Waivers
All submissions to Lore Lorn are handled through our Subfolio submission portal. This includes poetry, fiction, nonfiction, visual art, and entries for our monthly Monster of the Month competition.
Please select the appropriate submission call and follow its guidelines before submitting your work.
A nominal $1 submission fee helps discourage spam and supports the administration of submissions.
We believe financial circumstances should never prevent a writer or artist from sharing their work with us. If the fee presents a financial barrier, please contact submissions@lorelorn.com to request a fee waiver. No explanation or proof of financial hardship is required. You do not need to write anything at all in the email other than 'fee waiver request' in the subject and your name in the email body.
All work, including fee-waived submissions, must be submitted through Subfolio. Every submission receives the same editorial consideration.
